Manuka honey is a rare honey derived from the tea tree bush in New Zealand. Researchers from the University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand have determined that manuka honey has 10 times the antibacterial properties of other types of honey. Combining manuka honey with bee venom is thought to further enhance these benefits as well as relieve pain and inflammation.

Benefits of Manuka Honey

Multiple researchers have found that manuka honey has superior healing properties compared to other types of honey. The biochemical makeup of manuka honey is unique in that it contains a highly active non-peroxide molecule referred to as UMF or Unique Manuka Factor. Manuka honey with a UMF of 10 or higher has been shown to possess an antiseptic and antibacterial potency far exceeding the norm. It's antimicrobial abilities are effective in treating a wide variety of pathogens such as MRSA staph, E-coli, and heliobacter pylori; the bacteria responsible for many stomach ulcers. Manuka honey has been applied directly into deeply ulcerated wounds without compromising tissue regeneration. A number of studies have shown this honey to be highly effective in facilitating more rapid and complete healing.

Benefits of Bee Venom

Bee venom, also known as Apis Venenum Purum, is extracted directly from the stinger barbs of the honey bee. In recent years, this substance has gained increasing popularity as an effective homeopathic treatment for patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, MS, and migraine headaches. This is in large part due to powerful anti-inflammatory properties thought to be contained in the venom. Bee venom can be administered directly by applying the bee directly against the skin until it stings the recipient, via intradermal injection,or through venom extraction. Venom extraction is a process whereby venom is removed from the bee and is then synthesized into creams, ointments, or in pills.

Additional Considerations

There are a few commercial products available that are purported to contain both manuka honey and synthesized bee venom. Bee venom can cause severe allergic reactions in some individuals. Because of this, any preparation containing bee venom should not be taken except under the supervision of a trained apitherapist or healthcare professional. Direct bee sting therapy likewise should never be attempted without direct medical supervision, as anaphylactic reactions can occur.
