Achieving your goals and living the life you dream of is impossible if you concentrate on negativity. Positive affirmations are consciously-evoked positive thoughts or statements regarding some outcome or goal you want to accomplish. Affirmations help you to turn around negative thought patterns and keep you focused on your goals. Repeating affirmations on a daily basis helps your subconscious mind to accept them as reality. You can create your own daily affirmations to trigger your subconscious mind into action.
Step 1
Determine what goal you want to achieve. You must know in very specific terms what you are trying to accomplish. If you want to lose weight, state exactly how much weight you want to lose. Don't say "I will lose some weight."
Step 2
Make your goal as concrete as possible by using a definite time frame for accomplishment. Your subconscious mind will see your goal as vague and fuzzy if you don't set a specific date. For example, don't say "I will lose some weight in the future." Instead, you might say "I will lose 10 pounds by September 1st."
Step 3
Use active verbs to describe the actions you want to take. According to author Jerry Lopper in his book "Personal Development," you should avoid the use of phrases such as "I'll try." Saying you'll try doing something indicates to your subconscious that you're not really sure you can do it. Use positive, firm statements like "I am" which indicate that you already are in the process of achieving this goal. For example, say "I am a positive, happy person," not "I will try to be more positive."
Step 4
Write down your affirmation. Tape this paper in a place where you will see it frequently, such as on your bathroom mirror or your computer screen.
Step 5
Visualize achieving your goal. Really feel what it would be like to weigh 10 pounds less. Imagine how you look. Hear your friends complimenting you on your weight loss. See yourself buying new clothes and living a more active lifestyle. According to author Brian Tracy in his book "Create Your Own Future: How to Master the 12 Critical Factors of Unlimited Success," the more you visualize your goal, the clearer it will become. The clearer your goal becomes, the more rapidly you will achieve it.
