Many women and men like to manicure their eyebrows when the hair becomes a little too long or bushy. Contoured eyebrows are fashionable and can make a difference in the overall look of your face. Plucking eyebrows with tweezers is a popular choice, but is also time consuming. Waxing your eyebrows is an alternative that is best done professionally, but is also possible to do it yourself at home if you are careful and diligent.
Step 1
Brush your eyebrow hair with a spare toothbrush or a comb to reveal its natural direction and shape. Apply an astringent such as witch hazel to numb the skin slightly in preparation for the wax, according to the Free Beauty Tips website.
Step 2
Hold a ruler level with the inside part of your eye and parallel to your nose to determine where the inside of your eyebrow should begin. Mark the spot with a dot using an eyebrow pencil, and do both sides.
Step 3
Point a ruler from the edge of your nostril, to your eyebrow, passing it through the iris, or colored part, of your eye. Mark the spot with a dot above and below the eyebrow and do both sides. This is where the arch of your eyebrow should be. Draw the shape of your eyebrow, so you have a guide to follow.
Step 4
Lay out all of the parts of your home-waxing kit to be sure nothing is missing. Melt the wax in hot water or according to the directions of the kit. Test a little on your wrist to ensure it isn't too hot, then smooth it on your eyebrows in the direction the hair grows, using the spatula provided. Follow the outline you made, but only apply a small amount of wax at a time.
Step 5
Press the fabric strips onto the wax before it has a chance to harden. Wait for a few minutes, then pull the strip off in one quick motion, in the opposite direction that you applied it. Continue to wax your eyebrows until you have removed all unwanted hair.
Step 6
Pluck any loose hairs you missed with tweezers, then apply a moisturizer cream to soothe the skin.
Tips and Warnings
- Always apply wax under your brows, not over. This will enhance your eyes and be less noticeable if you make a mistake.
