Although all girls have facial hair, some have more noticeable hair than others. According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, it is natural for some women to have darker and coarser hair on the chin and upper lip area. This does not typically indicate a medical problem and the hair can be removed at home. The goal is to find the least painful and most efficient hair removal method.
Step 1
Pluck stray hairs from your face if you only have a couple of hairs. Hold the tweezers firmly and position them at the base of the hair. Grab the hair and pull it out.
Step 2
Dissolve the hair with a depilatory. After applying the depilatory and leaving it on for the required amount of time, wash your face to remove the dissolved hair. Keep the depilatory cream away from your eyes and mouth.
Step 3
Remove unwanted hair with wax. Waxing kits are available with pre-cut strips for the upper lip and chin area. Apply a thin layer of cold or hot wax to the area you want to treat. Press a strip of fabric to the wax and then peel off the strip quickly against the grain of the hair to pull the hair out of the follicles.
Step 4
Request a prescription from your doctor. The TeensHealth website from the Nemours Foundation states that girls may use a cream called eflornithine to get rid of facial hair. Apply the cream twice a day and hair will lighten and become finer.
Tips and Warnings
- Before you use any type of product to remove hair, remember to read all warnings and indications to confirm that it is safe for use on the face. Laser hair removal and electrolysis are other options to get rid of facial hair in women. Laser energy and electrical currents are used to destroy the hair at the base of the follicle. However, these methods are expensive and typically not covered by insurance. Although it does not remove the hair, there are creams available that bleach the hair on the face to camouflage it from view.
