If you have frizzy hair, you know that you hair has the potential for smooth waves, but no matter how you style it, your hair ends up frazzled by the afternoon. Your frizzy hair could be more a product of your styling choices than a product of bad genes. If you're looking to create movie-star glamor with soft, cascading waves, rethink the way that you typically blow dry and style your hair. By infusing your locks with moisture and avoiding heat-based styling tools, you can make frizzy hair into smooth waves.
Step 1
Wash and condition your hair as usual. Look for thick, cream-based conditioners meant for dry hair to infuse it with extra moisture and weight. When you get out of the shower, pat your hair dry with a towel and comb through a leave-in conditioner, suggests "Marie Claire" magazine. Then apply a frizz-free serum, concentrating at the roots and the tips of your hair.
Step 2
Wrap an absorbent towel around your hair by flipping your head upside down, wrapping it around the back of your head and twisting it on top of your head. Proceed with other parts of your beauty routine to allow your hair a chance to dry while the towel soaks up excess moisture. Apply your makeup and get dressed while your head is still in the towel, if possible.
Step 3
Unwrap your hair, but avoid the hair dryer, suggests "Cosmopolitan" magazine. Make sure that you give yourself enough time to get ready and allow your hair to dry naturally. While the hair dryer is a time saver, it can also roughen the hair cuticles, reducing your soft waves into wiry frizziness.
Step 4
Pull your hair back and braid it loosely in a few different sizes of braids around your head. Using different sizes makes your waves look natural and less coiffed. Secure the ends of the braids with claw clips or mini-bungees, which won't leave creases in the hair like hair elastics might. Spray the hair completely with a flexible hold hairspray and leave to dry for an hour.
Step 5
Remove the braids when they are dry to the touch, and tousle with your hands. Mist a heat-protecting spray over the top of your head, and flat iron from the roots to the top of the ears only, advises "Glamour" magazine. It gives the waves a smooth and glossy appearance, and smooths the hair cuticle for less frizz. Apply one last spritz of flexible hairspray.
