Teen acne can be caused by a shift in hormones, but other reasons for this condition include an imbalanced diet where there is excessive consumption of white sugar, meat and eggs, says acupuncturist Michael Tierra in his book "The Way of Herbs." For this reason, it is important to modify any eating habits that may be triggering skin eruptions, in addition to using homemade treatments to heal and reduce pimples and blemishes. Always consult your dermatologist before using any skin remedies if you are presenting signs of infection or you are under medical treatment.

Internal Treatments

Step 1

Place your herbs in a quart mason jar and fill it with boiling water.

Step 2

Stir the herbs in the water and close the jar tightly with a lid, letting the herbs simmer for at least 30 minutes.

Step 3

Strain out the herbs using a colander and serve yourself one cup of this tea three times per day. The herbs in this tea act as blood purifiers, which will help your body get rid of any stored toxins that may be causing your skin condition. Burdock is one of the primary herbs for this purpose. It removes indicators of systemic imbalance in your skin and helps treat acne, says herbalist David Hoffmann in his book "The Complete Illustrated Holistic Herbal."

External Treatment

Step 1

Boil water in a medium size pot and remove from heat.

Step 2

Add elder flowers and eucalyptus leaves and cover your head with a towel while you lean over the pot to receive the aromatic steam coming from these medicinal herbs that contain antibacterial properties that will help diminish infection. The steam is also opening your pores so you can more easily remove debris present in your skin.

Step 3

Rinse your face with warm water and do a gentle exfoliation of your skin and neck with honey and sugar.

Step 4

Rinse again with warm water and pat dry.

Step 5

Use a witch-hazel toner liquid to close your pores and moisturize your skin with a non-greasy lotion that will help your skin remain balanced.

Tips and Warnings

  • Only exfoliate your skin once a week, since this removes layers of skin that are necessary for protection from the sun and the elements.
  • Terminate your homemade treatment if you experience any type of allergic reaction, and consult your dermatologist immediately.
