If your hair is dry and has lost its luster, a nourishing hair mask made from healthy ingredients from your kitchen will restore your hair to health. Combine a variety of wholesome foods such as yogurt, cream, avocado, honey and nourishing oils to create a mask that will moisturize and hydrate your hair. Increase the benefits of your dry hair mask by adding great-smelling essential oils. The result will be shiny, manageable hair.
Step 1
Select the base of your dry hair mask. One cup of cream or plain, full-fat yogurt will have plenty of healthy fats to moisturize dry hair. Alternatively, use a mashed, ripe avocado instead of yogurt or cream, as avocado is full of beneficial essential oils that will nourish and hydrate your hair, advises Cait Johnson, author of "Earth, Water, Fire, and Air." Place your mask base in a small mixing bowl.
Step 2
Stir in 4 tbsp. oil, which will coat the hair shaft and restore luster to dry hair. Choose any healthy, edible oil, such as olive oil, sweet almond oil, grape seed oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil or vegetable oil.
Step 3
Add 2 tsp. honey and mix well. Honey is one of the most effective natural moisturizers, says CareFair.com. Honey will also help to "glue" the other ingredients together.
Step 4
Add other ingredients, as desired. A vitamin E capsule will add extra nourishment to your hair. Four to 6 drops of essential oils such as lavender, rose, sandalwood, chamomile or tea tree will moisturize the hair and will add a pleasant scent to your dry hair mask.
Step 5
Stir the mixture until the dry hair mask is smooth and creamy. Spread the mask onto your hair and allow it to remain for 20 to 30 minutes.
Step 6
Rinse the mask from your hair, and then wash your hair with a moisturizing shampoo.
