If you're in your 20s, the time is right to start taking good care of your skin. A healthy beauty regimen that begins when your skin is vibrant and youthful can easily be adapted to reflect changes in your skin as you mature. The effort will pay off in a big way as you maintain radiant skin that will remain fresh and lovely as the years go by.

Step 1

Wash your face nightly. Use a gentle cleanser suitable for your skin type. Select a product with as few additives and chemicals as possible. If your skin is oily, you may need to wash your face more than once every day.

Step 2

Follow cleansing with a mild toner, especially if you have oily skin. A mild toner will remove any traces of cleanser, as well as any remaining dirt, grime and oil.

Step 3

Apply a moisturizer every morning. Use a product that has an SPF of at least 15. Be sure the moisturizer will offer protection from both UVA and UVB rays. Apply the moisturizer to your face, and don't forget your neck, arms and any other exposed skin.

Step 4

Use a gentle exfoliant two to three times every week, suggests Skincare-news.com. An exfoliant will slough off dead, dry skin cells. Apply the exfoliant carefully without vigorous rubbing, and don't exfoliate the sensitive skin under your eyes. Avoid exfoliants if your skin is sensitive.

Step 5

Adopt skin-healthy habits. Use alcohol in moderation. If you smoke, quit, as smoking is hard on the skin, leading to dry skin, wrinkles and premature aging. Avoid both indoor and outdoor tanning, as the sun is to blame for at least 90 percent of premature aging of the skin, says the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Things You'll Need

  • Cleanser
  • Mild toner
  • Moisturizer with sunscreen
  • Exfoliant
