Moles are irregularities that occur when pigments of melanin clump together in your skin. Moles are more common on those with lighter skin, with the average number of moles on those with fair skin ranging from 10 to 40, states the American Academy of Dermatology. One common place these moles can form is on the face. If you want to rid yourself of a facial mole, you have several options.
Step 1
Apply a bloodroot paste directly to the mole. Cover the treated mole securely with a Band-Aid, and repeat each morning for three days. Between each application, wash the mole with hydrogen peroxide. The effectiveness of this treatment has yet to be proved through research, according to DocShop.com. Talk to your doctor before trying any alternative treatments for moles on your face.
Step 2
Talk to your doctor about a shave excision on moles that are not cancerous or precancerous. During a shave excision, your doctor uses a blade to cut the mole at the surface of the skin. This approach is not recommended for moles that may be malignant since mole cells may remain below the surface of the skin.
Step 3
Discuss a punch biopsy with your doctor to remove smaller moles. Smaller moles can be fully removed through use of a sharp punch device that takes a circular chunk of skin, including the mole, from your face. This method helps ensure that all the mole cells have been removed.
Step 4
Consider a surgical excision for moles that are flat or possibly cancerous or precancerous. Surgical incision is more invasive, but it is also the most effective at removing the entire mole including any remaining cells within the skin tissue. However, since more skin is removed, the area needs to be stitched back up and allowed to heal. Although more invasive, this procedure can still be performed in your doctor's office with only a local anesthetic, states the Mayo Clinic.
