Aggressive skates are a type of inline skate designed for stunts such as jumps, grinding on rails and skating on half pipes. These skates typically have much smaller wheels than recreational skates or fitness skates, and they do not have heel brakes. They offer more stability and durability than other types of inline skates. When you buy a new pair of aggressive skates, keep certain factors in mind to make sure you get the right pair for you.
Step 1
Consider the type of skating or stunts you will perform on the skates, as well as the intensity or frequency with which you will use the skates. If you will only use the skates occasionally, consider buying an inexpensive pair with less armor and padding. If you will skate on them very often, consider investing more money in a pair that will be able to endure more wear and tear.
Step 2
Look for aggressive skates with anti-rocker wheels if you perform lots of grinds or rail stunts. Skates with anti-rocker wheels have standard wheels at the front and back and much smaller wheels in the middle. These middle wheels do not roll while you skate, but provide a surface on which you can land tricks.
Step 3
Try on skates from a variety of manufacturers. Skate length and width can vary widely according to manufacturer, so you might be able to find a better fit with a particular brand.
Step 4
Use your shoe size as a starting point to choose sizes to try on, but don't assume that skates in your shoe size will fit. Try skates on in your shoe size as well as a half size smaller and larger.
Step 5
Put the skates on with form-fitting socks that you will wear when you skate.
Step 6
Press the back wheel of the skate into the ground to push your heel all the way into the skate.
Step 7
Tighten all buckles or laces on the skates.
Step 8
Stand up in the skates and bend your knees. Your toes should sit close to the end of the skate, but they should not feel crunched or folded. You should not be able to move your heel up and down with the buckles firmly tightened.
Step 9
Stand in the skates for 10 to 15 minutes to make sure no fit problems come to your attention.
Tips and Warnings
- Though you can buy aggressive skates online, visiting a retail shop allows you to try the skates on to ensure that they fit properly. Poorly fitting skates will hinder your ability to perform stunts. Rotate your wheels regularly to avoid wearing your skate wheels out unevenly.
- Aggressive skating can be dangerous. Skate at your own risk.
