Toxins can amass in vital organs such as the brain and liver if not properly flushed from the body. A detoxification method can help vanquish these unwanted contaminants through several dietary adjustments and restrictions. In addition to the regimented detox program, following some easy tips can help optimize the flush while aiding in overall health. Individuals should always consult a physician prior to beginning any detoxification program.

Add Garlic

Many detox methods will require a restrictive diet. Adding garlic as a garnish, flavoring or spice can help remove toxins from the body while also adding some taste. The Global Healing Center says that this pungent herb helps stimulate the liver to produce detoxifying enzymes that filter toxins in the digestive tract. Garlic also helps facilitate peristatis, which is the movement of the intestines for secretion of digestive juices. Peristatis is instrumental in the production and regularity of bowel movements for detoxification, according to the Well Sphere website.

Omega-3 Oils

Certain detoxification methods, such as the fruit and vegetable cleanse, stress cleanse or spring cleanse, require eating and cooking certain fruits and vegetables, according to Linda Page in her book "Healthy Healings Detoxification." Each program has a variety of vegetables and fruits to select from during the detoxifying process. Choosing fruits and vegetables rich in omega-3 oils helps to eliminate amassed toxins by lubricating the intestinal walls and absorbing toxins for removal.

The Healing Daily website says that these oils also decrease kidney inflammation, which can inhibit the body's natural ability to cleanse itself. Flaxseed oil, cod liver oil and avocados provide solid amounts of omega-3 oils and are helpful in relieving constipation and soothing hemorrhoids.

Drink Green Tea

The Science Daily website reports that chemicals present in green tea dramatically boost the production of key detoxification enzymes. A study published in the "Cancer of Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention" found that individuals who took catechins in amounts equal to eight to 16 cups of green tea significantly increased enzymatic production of glutathione S-transferase, or GST. These enzymes are responsible for fighting cancer-causing chemicals and other toxins, the study affirms.

Adding green tea to a detoxification method can help revert carcinogens to non-toxic chemicals as well as provide a significant amount of antioxidants to the body, which help to circumvent free radical damage.
