The Mayo Clinic Diet

Many diet plans have called themselves Mayo Clinic diets over the years, but apparently they were stretching the truth. According to a U.S. News & World Report interview with Donald Hensrud, chairman of the division of preventive, occupational and aerospace medicine at Mayo Clinic, the famed clinic's book released in January 2010 represents the first diet it has ever developed. The title of the book is "The Mayo Clinic Diet: Eat Well, Enjoy Life, Lose Weight," and it asks the dieter to follow strict guidelines. Some of its rules include no restaurant dining, unless the menu offers an entree that adheres to the plan, and no sugar other than natural fruit. This diet employs a basic strategy in which the dieter is asked to add five healthy habits and subtract five unhealthy habits. The fundamental goal is to help people achieve a total lifestyle change, so they can live healthier as well as lose weight. The Mayo Clinic Diet is not an excessively low carbohydrate diet. In fact, it allows for high intake of fruits and vegetables, which results in rapid water weight loss.

Nutrisystem

The Nutrisystem diet plan has been popular for a number of years and has undergone many changes during its existence. The primary focus of today's Nutrisystem plan is maintaining a low-calorie diet. It offers convenient prepackaged meals sent directly to customers' homes. Dieters, who are usually enrolled in a monthly plan, get an entire month of meals delivered to them for a fee. Although Health.com cites these meals as being nutritionally sound, it criticizes the taste and portion size. It also also points out that if you decide to discontinue this diet, you might be in danger of gaining your weight back, due to the fact that your body becomes so accustomed to such a low caloric intake.

The South Beach Diet

The South Beach Diet was developed by Dr. Arthur Agatston in an effort to help his patients learn to make healthier lifestyle choices and take better care of themselves to avoid health risks. This diet employs strict meal restrictions for the first two weeks and then relies on the basic concept of a balanced diet within the food groups. The South Beach Diet Plan's website comes highly endorsed by Good Housekeeping because of its online support and encouragement.

Volumetrics

According to U.S. News & World Report, Consumer Reports compiled various scientific research and determined that the Volumetrics diet plan offered the best chance to lose weight of all diet plans studied. The Volumetrics plan is based on the basic principle of eating low-calorie, yet high-volume, servings of food. This method helps you feel full and lose weight by consuming nutrient-rich foods without consuming high numbers of calories. The name of this diet plan's book is "Volumetrics: Feel Full on Fewer Calories." The Volumetrics plan is another diet method that focuses on eating meals in accordance with the food pyramid and avoiding sweets.
