If you're tired of the unsightly white flakes that land on your shoulders, but expensive chemical-laden commercial products don't seem to be doing the job, try making your own dandruff shampoo. A homemade shampoo that contains apple cider vinegar will help to clear up pore-clogging bacteria and restore the proper pH balance of your scalp. If your dandruff doesn't improve, or if your scalp is red and irritated, see your physician. He may be able to diagnose the underlying cause, and prescribe a medicated product that will work for you.
Step 1
Place 1/4 cup liquid castile soap into a mixing bowl. Add 3 tbsp. apple juice and 1 tbsp. apple cider vinegar. Stir well.
Step 2
Add 1 tsp. rum extract, 3 drops clove essential oil and 3 drops peppermint, rosemary, eucalyptus or sage essential oil. Stir until the essential oils are thoroughly incorporated into the castile soap mixture, then pour the mixture into a plastic bottle.
Step 3
Shampoo your hair with your homemade shampoo. Allow the lather to remain on your hair for one to two minutes, and then rinse your hair with warm water.
Step 4
Refrigerate any remaining shampoo. Use the shampoo within three days.
