Spending hundreds of dollars on fancy salon products will not produce the same head of healthy hair as taking care of yourself from the inside out by maintaining a healthy diet, drinking lots of water, and taking essential vitamins and minerals. By supplementing your diet with these vitamins, you will be well on your way to full and beautiful locks.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is an essential nutrient you can take as a pill or capsule. While it is known for its potent power in maintaining a healthy immune system, it also does wonders for your mane. It maintains your hair color so you can stave off graying for as long as possible. It also combats premature hair loss, keeping you with a full head of hair as long as genetics allows. Those with a lack of vitamin C in their diet will have dry, brittle hair that will be easily prone to breakage.
Biotin
Biotin, a B vitamin, is available as a supplement. This is an important vitamin to take daily in order to maintain strong hair and nails. Even the cosmetic market has discovered the benefits on biotin, and you will find it as an ingredient in many beauty products. Biotin is used to break down amino acids and produce fatty acids in the body; without it, you can develop hair loss, skin rashes and brittle hair. Take a daily dose of biotin and look for hair-care products that contain it.
B Vitamins
Any drug store will carry a vitamin B complex, and these are well worth taking if you desire a gorgeous mane. B vitamins will help in the fullness of hair growth, and are important beauty nutrients. Look for a complex that contains vitamin B3, which promotes scalp circulation, B5 to help prevent premature graying and hair loss, and B6 to promote healthy hair by stimulating hair growth. Note that biotin, mentioned above, is also part of the B complex (known as vitamin B7), so if you're going to take a B complex supplement that already contains biotin, do not take a biotin-only supplement separately.
Vitamin D
Few foods in nature, other than fortified foods such as milk, contain vitamin D. So be sure to take this vitamin in supplemental form. A multivitamin should contain enough, so take one daily. The purpose of vitamin D is to aid in bone growth and calcium absorption. Calcium is necessary for healthy hair; a lack of it will produce dry, damaged hair.
Vitamin E
Look for hair-care products on the market that contain vitamin E. It is a vitamin that can be put directly onto the hair to make it shiny and hydrated. It is similar to putting olive oil or using a conditioning treatment to penetrate deep into each hair's strand. Also, take a multivitamin to get the proper amount of this vitamin in your diet. It promotes scalp circulation by increasing oxygen uptake in your bloodstream. This increase in oxygen nourishes cells, promoting healthy hair growth.
