Although most day spas offer a variety of body wrap treatments, you can perform a similar body wrap at home for a fraction of the cost. The same body wrap concoctions day spas use to exfoliate and tone the skin, to detoxify and relax the body and to improve circulation and ease muscle and joint pain contain ingredients that are simple to obtain and prepare--sea salt, essential oils, powdered herbs, aloe vera, clay and others. Assemble the necessary supplies and ingredients, set aside a time where you can enjoy your body wrap interrupted and replicate a high-end day spa treatment in your own home.
Step 1
Prepare the room you will be doing the body wrap treatment in by first layering the couch or bed you will lie on after the wrap is in place with a heat-retaining space blanket, a thick normal blanket and a plastic drop sheet. Place another plastic drop sheet on the floor near the couch or bed; this is where you will apply the wrap. Arrange scented candles, potpourri, fragrant oils and a CD player equipped with soft music in the room. Put a glass of water next to where you will be resting after the body wrap is in place.
Step 2
Use a soft body brush or loofah to gently dry brush your skin. Work from the chest and arms down, brushing in circular motions, but be certain not to brush too harshly. Take a warm shower and towel dry.
Step 3
Boil 8 cups of water in a large pot, then take the pot off the heat and add the required ingredients for your body wrap mixture. These mixtures can range from ones suitable for different skin types to ones designed to moisturize and smooth the skin (see Resources).
Step 4
Allow the body wrap mixture to cool at least 15 minutes. Take one towel, dip it into the mixture completely, then wrap it snugly around one of your legs. The online site Spa Living for Health recommends using one soaked towel for each leg, one for your stomach, one for your chest and one each for both arms.
Step 5
Wrap yourself in the layered blankets you prepared on your couch or bed. Remain there for one hour, then remove the towels and take a lukewarm bath to wash off the body wrap mixture.
