Home Remedy for Ingrown Hairs on Breast

One of the most uncomfortable things that can happen to your skin is getting an ingrown hair. An ingrown hair usually happens when the hair is cut too close to the skin and actually bends underneath the skin's surface. Once the hair is caught under the skin, it can get infected and must be removed. If you have an ingrown hair in your breast area, you need to take steps to remove it.

Step 1

Soak a towel in warm water. Wring out the excess water and fold the towel. Place the towel on the ingrown hair bump. The heat will soften the skin and help the hair raise to the top of the skin.

Step 2

Sterilize the end of a pair of tweezers with a lighter while the towel is on your breast. Hold the tips of the tweezers over the open flame for a few seconds so all germs are destroyed. An alternative method for sterilization is to place the tweezers in a pot of boiling water. Place the tweezers in the pot and turn on the stove. Bring the water to a boil and leave the tweezers in the water for 15 minutes.

Step 3

Remove the towel and grab the hair with the tweezers. Pull the hair out of the skin by the root of the follicle.

Step 4

Wash the area of the removed hair thoroughly with soap and water. Blot it dry with a towel.

Tips and Warnings

  • If the hair does not break through the skin once the area has been soaked by the warm compress, either leave it on for another five minutes. If it still does not appear, it may not be long enough and you may need to wait for a few days for it to grow.
  • Only pull the hair out with tweezers. Shaving or other forms of removal might lead to an infection, such as folliculitis. According to the Mayo Clinic, folliculitis is an infection of a hair follicle with Staphylococcus or other bacteria.
