Poor circulation in the under-eye area, due to allergies or other factors, can give it a noticeable dark color similar to a black eye. A thinner layer of skin under the eye can make this a more common occurrence for some people than others. For other people black eye circles are the result of lack of sleep, excessive alcohol intake, or by taking certain medications that cause the blood vessels to dilate.

Step 1

Make a cold compress by filling a sealable plastic bag with ice cubes or grab a bag of frozen vegetables out of the freezer. Lie back and place the compress over your eyes and relax for 10 to 15 minutes.

Step 2

Massage almond oil under your eyes for several minutes until you see a noticeable improvement. Wipe away excess oil with a soft clean cloth when the circles are gone.

Step 3

Dampen two green tea bags in cold water and wring out the excess moisture with your fingers. Place a tea bag over each eye as you lie down and leave them there for 10 to 15 minutes to eliminate dark circles.

Step 4

Fill a basin or the sink with ice water. Splash the cold water over your face for 5 to 10 minutes to reduce or remove dark circles.

Step 5

Slice a potato into thin slices and place a slice over each eye. Catecholase, a chemical found in potatoes, is commonly used in cosmetics to lighten skin. Leave the potatoes over your eyes for 15 minutes before discarding them.
