It is important for children to be active in order to lead a healthy life. When people hear of developing an exercise plan, they think it involves going to the gym or running on the treadmill. For a child that is not the case; they need to be participating in gym at school, running around and playing during recess, or involved in a sport specific class such as karate or football. Children should exercise or play for at least an hour each day.
Core Exercise Plan
Develop a plan that has the three key elements of a child's exercise; they are endurance, strength, and flexibility. Any aerobic exercise such as a tag game where they are running away from the tagger will strengthen the heart and lead to a greater blood and oxygen flow throughout the body. Any core exercise such as push-ups or sit-ups will help strengthen the muscles. Games that require climbing across monkey bars or gymnastics will also strengthen muscles. Lastly, traditional stretching or gymnastics will help to increase flexibility and range of motion.
Children's Exercise Routine
Put play time into your child's everyday routine. Decrease the amount of TV, computer, and video game time that they have. A typical child's routine should consist of a nutritional snack when they get home from school, two hours of study time, followed by at least one hour of play time when the electronics have to be off.
Family Activities
Plan family outings that include physical activity for your children. For example a trip to the swimming pool or a cycling trip through the park.
Gift Planning For Children's Exercise Routine
Give birthday and Christmas gifts to your children that will require them to be physically active. Give them a baseball and baseball glove or a video game that requires them to be physically interactive.
Natural Exercise
Require your children to take the stairs instead of the elevator. Park the car a block or two away from school and take a walk with them the rest of the way.
