Getting kids active may be more difficult than ever. Video games, television and computers keep kids glued to their seats. However, there are plenty of youth activities throughout the state of Mississippi that will keep youngsters entertained and get them on their feet.

Soccer

Mississippi is home to the Mississippi Soccer Association, a large youth soccer organization that keeps over 20,000 kids kicking each season. The association aims to nurture a child's physical and mental outlook through soccer with programs available at all skill levels from ages four through 19, keeping your child fit both inside and out.

Rebel Quest

Rebel Quest is a day camp offered by University of Mississippi for kids ages six through 13. The camp combines academics and athletics, giving kids an opportunity to flex their smarts and their muscles. The cost of attendance covers lunch and admission to the pool, as each camp day is ended with swimming.

Baseball

Baseball is the staple sport of many kids' childhood, and Mississippi is home to the Mississippi Dixie Youth Baseball league. The league has a history spanning back to 1955 and is made up of several smaller leagues throughout the state. Players who couldn't otherwise afford to play may qualify for scholarships.

Summer Camps

Youth summer camps are available throughout the state and feature activities, such as rock climbing, swimming, volleyball and basketball. When the kids aren't breaking a sweat, you can finding them doing arts and crafts or performing on stage. Twin Lakes Summer Camps is located in Florence, Mississippi; Camp Stanislaus is in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.

Canoeing and Kayaking

The Mississippi River is right in the backyard, so there are plenty of canoeing and kayaking trips available for all ages. Mississippi Outdoor Club offers several and a few especially for youth, including one from the Wolf River Canoe and Kayak. Canoeing and kayaking will not only get your kids in touch with nature and learning survival strategies, but it will also help them build important upper body strength.

Museum

The Mississippi Children's Museum offers a cultural experience that children won't soon forget. Not only will they learn all about their heritage and science and technology, but the museum offers a health gallery that will teach them all about health and active living.
