You can also add your favorite scent to homemade rice bags that you can heat in the microwave and use to soothe tired, aching muscles. Even if you do not know how to sew, you can make aroma therapy bags using inexpensive materials and your favorite essential oils to use whenever, and wherever, you need a natural pick-me-up.
Simple Aroma Bead Bag
Step 1
Pour 5 tbsp. aroma beads, available from online aromatherapy retailers, into a glass jar.
Step 2
Add 10 to 15 drops of your favorite essential oil, such as almond, rose or jasmine to the aroma beads and stir thoroughly, until the fragrance is evenly distributed over the aroma beads.
Step 3
Store the glass jar in your pantry or cupboard for five to seven days to allow the beads to soak up the scent of the essential oil.
Step 4
Pour the scented aroma beads into sachet bags, and place the filled sachet bags in your dresser drawers, closet shelves, car ashtray and any other place you would like to use the aromatherapy bags around your home and workplace.
Easy-Sew Aromatherapy Rice Bag
Step 1
Fold a 9 by 22 piece of fabric in half, so that it measures 9 by 11.
Step 2
Sew three sides of the bag, and leave one side of the bag open for filling.
Step 3
Mix 2 cups of uncooked, short or long grain white rice with 20 to 25 drops of your favorite essential oil in a medium-sized mixing bowl.
Step 4
Pour the scented rice into the bag, and sew the fourth side shut.
Step 5
Place the aromatherapy rice bag in the microwave for one to two minutes, checking it every 30 seconds to ensure that it does not over heat.
Step 6
Place the aromatherapy bag over your sore body part.
Up-Cycled Aromatherapy Sock Bag
Step 1
Mix 2 to 3 cups of uncooked rice with 25 to 30 drops of your favorite essential oil in a medium-sized mixing bowl.
Step 2
Fill up an old, clean tube sock with the scented rice and tie a knot at the top of the sock.
Step 3
Microwave the sock for 30 seconds at a time, until the sock is warm but not too hot to place on your skin.
Step 4
Place the sock aromatherapy bag over your affected area.
