Playing a round of golf can be one of the most enjoyable ways to spend a day. That enjoyment can be multiplied when you start to learn some of the skills of the game and you learn how to swing the club correctly. You don't have to be a professional golfer or challenge par regularly to have a good swing. Once you understand what it takes to swing the club well and can repeat it, you will probably lower your score and enjoy the game even more.

Step 1

Line up with your left shoulder for a right-handed player facing the target. Place your left foot directly under your shoulder. Space your feet shoulder-width apart and the ball about two inches closer to your front foot than your back foot.

Step 2

Grip the club at a "6" on a scale of 1 to 10, the equivalent of a firm handshake with someone you are meeting for the first time, to permit the full rotation of your shoulders and keep the club head in place at impact with the ball.

Step 3

Rotate your hips to the rear to get your swing started, with your weight on your right side and your hands at shoulder height.

Step 4

Rotate your hips to the front to start the downswing. As your hips come forward, move your hands toward the ball. Snap your right wrist when you make contact for maximum distance and accuracy.

Step 5

Move your hands forward at full speed after you make contact with the ball. Finish your swing with your hands at shoulder height.
