Oatmeal is great for more than just breakfast, cookies and thickening meatloaf. It is also a nourishing facial cleanser. Oatmeal acts as the base for natural face cleansers that you can make with ingredients you likely already have in your kitchen cupboard, whether your skin is normal, oily or dry.

Oatmeal Cleanser for Normal Skin

Step 1

Pour 2 tbsp. of finely ground oatmeal and 1 tsp. of water into the bowl.

Step 2

Mix ingredients thoroughly with a spoon until you have formed a thick paste.

Step 3

Spread oatmeal and water mixture over your face using your fingertips, avoiding the eyes.

Step 4

Rinse the cleanser off your face with warm water and gently pat dry.

Oatmeal Cleanser for Oily Skin

Step 1

Combine 2 tbsp. ground oatmeal, one tsp. baking soda and 2 tsp. apple cider vinegar in bowl.

Step 2

Mix thoroughly until the baking soda has fully dissolved into the oatmeal mixture and the three ingredients have formed a rich paste.

Step 3

Spread oatmeal and water mixture over your face using your fingertips, avoiding the eyes.

Step 4

Allow mixture to rest on skin for two minutes for a deeper clean.

Step 5

Rinse your face thoroughly with warm water and gently pat skin dry.

Oatmeal Cleanser for Dry Skin

Step 1

Pour 2 tbsp. of ground oatmeal into a small bowl with 1 tsp. of milk.

Step 2

Mix the two ingredients together until a creamy paste is formed.

Step 3

Spread paste over your entire face, avoiding the eye area.

Step 4

Rinse mixture from face thoroughly with warm water and gently pat dry.

Tips and Warnings

  • When spreading any of these three cleansers on your face, stand over a sink or basin, as chunks of oatmeal cleanser may fall from your face.
  • If your skin is sensitive, spread whichever cleanser you choose over your face with a light hand, careful not to rub mixture into skin, as this could cause irritation.

  • 2 tbs. oatmeal, finely ground
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tsp. apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp. milk
