How to Install a Britax Roundabout

The Britax Roundabout is a convertible car seat that can be used rear or forward facing. Britax recommends that the seat be used rear facing for infants and toddlers who weigh 5 to 35 lbs. Children can go forward facing in the Roundabout from 20 to 40 lbs, if they are at least one year of age, or as allowed by law.

Rear Facing Installation

Step 1

Adjust the reclining position by pulling on the front recline lever and adjust to the desired angle. The seat must be reclined when placed rear facing. It may be reclined or upright for forward facing.

Step 2

Place the Roundabout seat in the back seat of the vehicle, facing you for ease of installation. Locate the LATCH system in the crease of your back seat where the back of the vehicle seat meets the seat bottom.

Step 3

Attach the right LATCH connector to the farthest LATCH connector in your car by pressing it until you hear a click.

Step 4

Turn the Roundabout so that it completely faces the back seat and attach the remaining LATCH connector until it too clicks into place.

Step 5

Press the seat of the Roundabout with one hand while pulling each connector strap tightly. Repeat on each side until the seat does not move when tugged on.

Forward Facing Installation

Step 1

Adjust the LATCH connectors for forward facing installation by pulling them both through the right side of the seat. Release the LATCH straps until they are fully extended. Insert the LATCH connectors through the forward facing slot on the back of the seat.

Step 2

Place the Roundabout on the back seat of the vehicle, facing the opposite passenger window to make installation easier.

Step 3

Locate the tether strap at the top of the Roundabout and remove from its pouch. Place the tether strap in the child seat for later use and to get it out of your way.

Step 4

Attach the LATCH connector on the right side of the seat to the LATCH farthest from you. Click the LATCH connector into place. Turn the seat so it completely faces forward and connect the remaining LATCH connector.

Step 5

Press down in the seat while pulling the LATCH straps tight so that the Roundabout cannot move when pushed and tugged on. Locate a tether anchor on your vehicle by checking your owner's manual. The tether is used in forward facing installations. Anchors are often located on the back, or bottom of the back seat. Loosen the tether strap and click the tether into place, then tighten the strap.

Tips and Warnings

  • The Britax Roundabout can be installed in vehicles without the LATCH system using the standard seat belt. Car-Safety.org notes that the LATCH system began appearing in cars in 2000, and by 2003 nearly all models incorporated the convenient system into their design. Your vehicle owner's manual can tell you if your car is equipped with the LATCH system.
