NordicTrack skiers are cardio machines used for aerobic conditioning. The company makes several skier machines. Some of them have handles attached to cables that work the upper body and some have arm bars instead. The skiers all have "skis" that you stand on and slide to work your lower body. NordicTrack recommends working at an intensity that allows you to whistle while skiing. Never exceed your maximum heart rate, which you can figure out by subtracting your age in years from 220 beats per minute.
NordicTrack ExerScience 3000
The NordicTrack ExerScience 3000 machine is a skier with movable skis on a base and handles attached to cords. The skis may be used alone or with the arms depending on if you hold onto the stationary handlebars or the cords. You can adjust the resistance for your upper body by turning the knob on top of the cord drum. The resistance for the skis is adjustable by sliding the drag strip on the upright tube to the level you desire. Use the ExerScience 3000 by stepping onto the skis and sliding your toes all the way forward. Flatten the front of your hips to the hip pad. Grab the handles with your arms straight. Slide your right foot forward and pull your left arm back. Switch places. Other models of the ExerScience use the same instructions.
NordicTrack Strength Aerobics Skier
The NordicTrack Strength Aerobics Skier offers you the options to work just your legs or arms or both. The skis on this machine will not move if you lock them by turning the resistance knob clockwise, which allows you to only use your arms by pressing forward and pulling backwards on the skier's poles. Use the skis by turning the knob the other way, stepping onto the machine and placing your hips against the hip pad. Either tighten the knob on the poles completely so they do not move so you can just work your legs, or adjust them to your desired level. Slide one foot backward while you pull the opposite arm back to use the machine. Stand upright throughout the exercise.
NordicTrack Classic Pro Skier
Exercising on the NordicTrack Classic Pro Skier is similar to using an ExerScience model. You can do legs only or arms and legs together depending on if you hold the handgrips attached to the cords so you can pull against the resistance from the cord drum. Before you begin, adjust the skier to either a flat or incline position by removing the leg pin on the legs, sliding the legs to the height you desire and replacing the pins. Then, step onto the skis and put the front of your hips against the pad. Slide the legs forward and backward and use the arms as described for the Classic Pro Skier if you want to.
