One of the top challenges of golf is the ability to hit the ball consistently from the tee and fairway. Many golfers get a surge of confidence when they hit a long and accurate shot off the tee, then follow it with another one to get on the green in two shots. The problem comes when they hook the ball into the woods or slice it into the hazard on the ensuing tee. Building a swing that can be repeated is the goal of many golfers.
Step 1
Line up with your lead shoulder facing the target. For a right-handed golfer, this means the left shoulder. Your feet should be about shoulder width apart and your knees should be bent in an athletic position so you can easily transfer your weight during the swing process. Play the ball about one ball length closer to your front foot. Take this approach and you will be on your way towards a golf swing that can be repeated.
Step 2
Grip the club firmly but don't squeeze it too tight. Many golfers feel pressure after hitting one or two good shots in a row. They want to make sure they hit their next shot well so they grip the club tightly to make sure they get everything into their shot. However, gripping the club too tightly will prevent you from getting full rotation on your swing. Instead of choking the club, grip it at a "6" on a scale of 1 to 10. That's similar to the way you would shake hands with a new business associate.
Step 3
Rotate your hips to the rear to get your swing started. If you are going to repeat your swing, you must use your entire body. Use your hips to trigger your swing, then let your arms and shoulders follow. When your hips have turned as far as they can go, your hands will be at shoulder height and you have completed a repeatable backswing.
Step 4
Launch into the ball by rotating your hips forward. This will trigger your downswing and your arms and hands will follow. Once your hips have cleared the ball, make sure you snap your right wrist on impact for maximum distance and accuracy.
Step 5
Follow through after contact to get the maximum distance after your swing. To repeat a good swing, you have to finish a good swing. That means keeping your head down after contact and driving your hands through the ball until they are at shoulder height.
