A sweat suit, or sauna suit, looks like a typical workout or warm-up suit. The difference is that a sweat suit is designed to minimize air flow and induce sweating while you wear it. Sweat suits are usually made of rubber or vinyl, and have a similar effect on your body as sitting in a real sauna. Boxers and wrestlers often use sweat suits to lose weight quickly when they need to make a certain weight for a fight. A sweat suit may be dangerous if not used properly, so consult your physician before you use one.
Step 1
Stretch your muscles and warm up before you begin your workout. Muscles still need to be loose and limber to avoid injury, even while sweating profusely.
Step 2
Put on a layer of clothing underneath your sweat suit to absorb some of the moisture. Choose cotton or another absorbent, natural material.
Step 3
Pull on your sweat suit and begin your workout. Walk or jog lightly at first, until you discover just how much perspiration you will lose.
Step 4
Turn the sweat suit inside out when you are finished, for faster drying. Wash it according to the instructions on the tag.
Tips and Warnings
- Drink a lot of water while you are sweating in the suit.
- Stop exercising immediately if you feel light-headed or dizzy.
