If you're tired of battling large, unsightly pores on your face, don't give up. Instead, adopt some simple techniques that will shrink your pores to normal size and keep your face looking smooth and flawless. Incorporate the new habits in your regular beauty routine and improve the appearance of your pores in just one week, according to Elena Arboleda of New York's Mario Badsescu Spa. See a dermatologist for more treatment options if you are still uncomfortable with your large pores.
Step 1
Wash your face before bed every night, as large pores are often caused by a build-up of of oil and dirt. Use a cleanser suitable for your skin type, and then scrub your face for at least 30 seconds. Be sure to remove every trace of make-up, as cosmetics can work their way deep into your pores as you sleep.
Step 2
Apply an oil-free toner after cleansing your skin. Use a commercial toner or plain witch hazel. Saturate a cotton ball with the toner, then smooth the toner over your skin. Always follow toner with a water-based moisturizer to prevent the skin from becoming too dry.
Step 3
Use a facial scrub weekly to exfoliate, or slough off dead skin cells, and clear blockages that can cause blackheads. Use a scrub containing salicylic acid or alpha hydroxy acids three times weekly if you have oily skin. Exfoliate twice weekly using a gentle, non-abrasive scrub if you have dry or sensitive skin.
Step 4
Shrink your pores and remove impurities from your skin with a clay-based facial mask once or twice a week, suggests Arboleda. Concentrate the mask on oily areas or areas with large pores, such as the nose, chin and forehead.
Step 5
Soak up excess oil throughout the day, using complexion blotting sheets. Avoid powders and heavy make-up, which will clog the pores.
