The Summer Infant Forehead Thermometer is a small adhesive strip used to measure your baby's temperature. Talk to your pediatrician to find out whether she prefers another method, such as a rectal thermometer, to confirm that your child has a fever. According to Babycenter, many pediatricians ask that parents take temperatures rectally until the child is older than 3 months.
Step 1
Remove the Summer Infant Forehead Thermometer reusable strip from the packaging. Hold both sides of the strip using your thumbs.
Step 2
Place the reusable strip directly on the child's forehead. If he is old enough, instruct him to stay still as you hold the strip in place. Wait for 15 seconds.
Step 3
Check the color indicated on the strip to determine fever level. Dark blue and light blue indicate that the child has a temperature under 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. A low fever at or around 100.4 degrees will appear as yellow. Fevers above 102.2 degrees register as red. The colors are the same for the reusable and disposable strips.
Step 4
Leave the disposable strip on the child if you want to monitor her temperature. The disposable strip can be left on for several minutes or even hours. As her temperature changes, the color on the strip will indicate the new level.
Tips and Warnings
- The Summer Infant Forehead Thermometer strips also indicate fever levels in Celsius.
- Don't leave your child unattended with the disposable strip. He may remove it or place the thermometer in his mouth.
