How to Identify Depression Pills

Depression is one of the most prevalent health problems throughout the world. Clinically called major depressive disorder, it can be treated through the use of various pharmaceutical compounds. Various drug companies offer many medications for the treatment of depression, which can make identifying the pills confusing. However, there are ways to determine the identity and dosage of these pills.

Step 1

Look for the medication's name. Often the label on the prescription bottle will list the name of the medication (just after the dosing information).

Step 2

Locate the prescription number. Most prescription labels will have the number of the prescription (highlighted in yellow) at the top of the label. The pharmacy where the prescription was filled may be able to help you identify the pill based on that information.

Step 3

Use a pill identifier. Many websites, such as Rxlist.com, have a pill identification tool that can identify your medication based on the characteristics of the pill. Look on both sides of the pill and type its characteristics into the prompts.

Step 4

Consult a list of depression medications. Steps 1 through 3 are designed to help you identify the name of the medication. Once you have the name, compare the name to a medication resource. Drugs.com has a particularly useful one.

Step 5

Click on the entry that matches your medication to learn more about dosing, side effects and other important consumer information.
