You may think that encouraging hair growth is an impossible task. Maybe you're trying to grow out damaged hair, or just want your hair to grow longer. You can help your hair to grow faster and healthier by making a commitment to taking better care of your hair. You'll see noticeable results, and your hair will become more vibrant and lustrous.

Step 1

Include omega-3 fatty acids in your diet. These essential nutrients stimulate hair growth, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Incorporate foods such as whole grains, fish, olive oil and garlic, as they contain high levels of omega-3.

Step 2

Stimulate your hair follicles with a daily scalp massage using peppermint essential oil. Apply a few drops of peppermint oil to your fingertips. Massage your scalp using gentle, circular motions. This will promote blood flow to your scalp and encourage hair growth, according to Sandi Brenner in her book "Beauty and the Budget."

Step 3

Trim split ends. Getting a small yet regular trim every six to eight weeks will help to keep your hair in top condition. According to Aroona Reejhsinghani in her book "Be Beautiful, Slim and Trim," hair grows approximately 1 cm every 15 days. Trimming your hair will not change the rate of hair growth, but it will prevent split ends from breaking off and damaging your hair.

Step 4

Use a nettle herb hair rub. According to Brenner, nettle herb stimulates hair growth. You can usually find dried nettle online or in health food stores. Pour one quart of boiling water over one handful of dried nettle herb. Allow this mixture to steep overnight. Strain and pour the mixture over your hair the next day. Massage it into your hair and scalp before shampooing.

Step 5

Keep your hair moisturized. Especially if your hair is dry or damaged, your hair will break less easily when it's well-conditioned. Use a deep-conditioning treatment such as an intensive hair mask or hot oil treatment once weekly.

Step 6

Brush your hair every night with a natural bristle brush. Brushing your hair stimulates the hair follicles and helps to distribute the natural oils in your scalp.

Things You'll Need

  • Peppermint oil
  • Dried nettle herb
  • Hot oil hair treatment
  • Deep conditioning mask
