How to Fill in Job Application Forms

In today's competitive job market, it is important to be able to fill out a job application accurately. A potential employee must be well-prepared with personal information, a resume and cover letter. Job applications can be found in various forms. One option is to apply in person request a paper application and fill it out immediately. Job seekers also utilize online resources to find available positions. After finding a potential employer, you have the choice to print out a paper application to be sent in to human resources or submit it electronically.

Step 1

Fill in the section labeled personal information. Include addresses, phone numbers, social security number, driver's license number, and email addresses. Be prepared to honestly answer any prior misdemeanor or felony convictions, because most employers will do a criminal background check.

Step 2

Complete the section titled "education" with your most recent degree first. Provide the school you attended, the address, major, semester hours completed, date of graduation and degree sought, if required.

Step 3

Fill out the employment history section, beginning with your most recent employer. Provide as much information as possible for each section. This may include the employer, employer's address, supervisor, contact number, position title, reason for leaving and, most importantly, the duties and responsibilities of your position. The job description should reflect the skills you acquired in your previous job that will be relevant to the new position.

Step 4

Write down any special skills, qualifications or certifications held that will be useful for the job. For example, if applying for a teaching position, include the subject area and grade level of certification. Include any other information that may be useful for your future employer to know before hiring for the position.

Step 5

Prepare a list of professional and personal references to attach to your application. Include a supervisor and co-worker who will be able to describe your work ethic. Have their names, position titles and contact information available. Include a personal reference that who provide the potential employer details about your morals and values.

Step 6

Submit your application after careful review. If filling out the application online, click on the submit button after ensuring that all information is filled out correctly and documents such as your cover letter and resume are successfully attached. When submitting a paper application, send it in a stamped envelope containing the application along with your cover letter and resume. If turning in the application personally, shake the manager's hand and thank the person for the opportunity.
