Braided line offers night fishermen choices that are not available with other types of line. Adding more weight for fishing deeper or to increase the distance of a cast are benefits of braided line. The most profound benefit would be the adaptability of the line with regard to rigging. Methods that call for heavier weight require bigger line, which can spook fish. Braided line has a smaller diameter and it provides equal strength of comparable test line.

Sliding Bait Rig

Tie a heavy pyramid sinker to the end of the line using a five-twist improved clinch knot. Make a long cast and allow the sinker to reach bottom. Place the rod in a holder. Tie one end of a length of fluorocarbon leader to a hook. Thread a sliding sinker on the leader above the hook and attach a snap swivel at the other end of the leader. Bait the hook with a chunk large enough to cover the hook. Snap the swivel onto the braided line and allow the rig to travel down the line. When a fish strikes, wind the line quickly until the sinker contacts the snap swivel. Bring the fish to the boat.

Float Rig

Tie the end of the braided fishing line to the eye of a marker buoy. Rig a long fluorocarbon leader with a hook, a sliding sinker and a snap swivel. Thread the swivel end through the eye of the buoy and clip it back on the leader to make a loop connection. Bait the hook and toss the marker buoy away from the boat. Play the fish normally and lift the buoy out of the water before netting the catch.

Top Water Fishing

Chum the water in a circle pattern and tie a large surface plug to the end of the braided fishing line. Cast the plug beyond the chum and bring it though the circle using a snapping motion of the rod tip as you retrieve. When you get a strike, allow the fish to run and tire, then retrieve your catch by lifting the rod slowly and winding as you lower the rod tip.
