Wrinkles are unavoidable. According to the New Zealand Dermatological Society Incorporated website, skin loses elasticity and hydration as you age, causing wrinkles to appear. Changes in the way you treat your skin, however, can slow down their appearance and even prevent new ones from forming. To get rid of existing wrinkles, however, you might need more invasive methods, such as laser treatment or a chemical peel.
Step 1
Stay away from the sun. UV exposure is the No. 1 cause of wrinkles, according to the New Zealand Dermatological Society. Damage usually occurs over time, so even if you notice nothing now, you should still protect your skin. Put on sunscreen every time you head outside for long periods of time and wear long sleeves and a hat to increase protection.
Step 2
Start using anti-aging products as early as possible. The Mayo Clinic recommends looking for creams that contain ingredients such as retinol, coenzyme Q10, alpha hydroxy acids and copper peptides. Using creams from an early age will help prevent skin from drying out and losing elasticity, so wrinkles can be stopped or at least be delayed.
Step 3
Give up smoking. The New Zealand Dermatological Society points out that smokers have more and deeper wrinkles. Throw away your cigarettes and you'll be able to stop the formation of wrinkles around the mouth and lips.
Step 4
Eat a healthier diet. A balanced diet that provides plenty of vitamins will keep you looking younger and improve the texture of your skin. According to the Canadian website of the Reader's Digest, the best anti-wrinkle foods include berries for their high content of antioxidants, and vegetables and beans for their high content of vitamins and minerals. Omega-3 fatty acids, present in fatty fish and flaxseed, are also good for your skin.
