Dandruff is characterized by a flaky, itchy scalp. If you have relaxed hair, you should use dandruff products that will moisturize your hair and scalp, and steer clear of products that can cause excessive drying and make itching worse. You should also avoid oiling your scalp, since a buildup of oil may increase your dandruff symptoms, according to Essence.com.

Elasta QP Dandruff Shampoo

Celebrity stylist Roberta Rogers recommends using Elasta QP Dandruff Shampoo, says Essence.com. This product contains zinc pyrithione to fight the bacteria that causes dandruff, as well as chamomile and jasmine oil to calm your dry, irritated scalp. It claims to contain a gentle formula and to effectively treat dandruff without drying out your hair and scalp. The product promises to relieve the itchiness and flaking that dandruff causes, and to normalize the condition of your scalp. Rogers suggests you use this shampoo twice in a row, and that the second time you let it soak into your hair and scalp for five minutes before rinsing. This will allow the product's active ingredients to do their work.

Neutrogena T/Sal Therapeutic Shampoo

For mild to severe dandruff, also known as seborrheic dermatitis, try a dandruff shampoo that contains salicylic acid. Essence.com suggests Neutrogena T/Sal Therapeutic Shampoo. This product contains no preservatives, fragrance or added colors, and it promises to lessen the severity of the itching and flaking of your scalp. The company notes that salicylic acid is an effective alternative to using a dandruff shampoo that contains coal tar, and it claims that this shampoo will help to reduce the buildup of skin and oil on your scalp. You should use this product at least three times a week, and allow it to remain on your hair for several minutes before you rinse it out.

Selsun Blue Dandruff Shampoo

To get rid of product build-up and nourish your relaxed hair at the same time, "Elle" magazine recommends Selsun Blue Dandruff Shampoo. This product promises to treat your flaky, itchy and scaly scalp, and to prevent these symptoms of dandruff from reoccurring. It also claims to moisturize your hair and make it shiny and healthy looking. This shampoo contains a medicated formula that includes selenium sulfide to fight dandruff, as well as menthol to soothe your irritated scalp. You should use this product at least twice a week to control your dandruff.
