It isn't uncommon for breasts to sag. Both pregnancy and age can take a great toll on the ligaments that support your breasts. With the added weight and constant pull of gravity, these ligaments eventually stretch and weaken, making it much more difficult for them to support breast tissue, explains the Mayo Clinic. As time goes by, your breasts sag. There isn't much you can do on your own to correct sagging breasts, but medical procedures are available if you're unhappy with your appearance.
Step 1
Consult a plastic surgeon. Plastic surgeons can examine your breasts, measure their shape and size, assess their skin quality and thickness, evaluate your overall health and medical history, and take into account your expectations to help you determine which type of procedure is best for you.
Step 2
Lift the breasts with a mastopexy procedure. Sometimes, all you need to improve the appearance of sagging breasts is a mastopexy, otherwise known as a breast lift. With this procedure, your surgeon lifts and reshapes breast tissue and removes excess skin to provide a firmer, more youthful appearance to your breasts.
Step 3
Undergo a breast reduction surgery. Often referred to as a reduction mammaplasty, this type of procedure is somewhat similar to a breast lift. But instead of reshaping the breast tissue, your surgeon actually removes a portion of it before the reconstruction and lift. Excess skin is also removed to allow for a firmer, more youthful appearance to your breasts.
Step 4
Enhance the appearance of your breasts with an augmentation. If you want to maintain the size of your breasts, breast augmentation may be an option for you. Saline or silicone implants can reduce sagging while still maintaining the size of your breasts. In this procedure, implants are placed under the breast tissue or under the actual chest muscles.
