Speeding up a golf swing is attempted through strength training, resistance training and a number of techniques devised by as many innovators. No matter the method, everything starts with a consistent motion to establish the speed of your swing. From this point you can implement a technique designed to speed up the swing. One way of adding speed combines more wrist action with your arms and body. With this approach you create the feeling your hands are starting before the club head and you catch up by adding wrist movement.

Step 1

Bring the club back and stop at the top of your swing. The club head should be elevated, the shaft at an angle and your wrists cocked in this position.

Step 2

Start your swing a few inches and stop. The club should be pointing almost vertical and your wrists still cocked. This is the point in your swing where you will add wrist action that launches the club head and adds speed to your swing.

Step 3

Bring the club back, hold at the top, and in one motion start the swing and flick your wrists from cocked to straight. Continue the swing through the ball and assess the contact point: If the club head hit behind the ball, it means you didn't flick your wrists soon enough. If the club head hit on top or in front of the ball, you flicked your wrists too soon.

Step 4

Practice until you feel the club head unload with the flick of your wrist on a consistent basis. Wrists move quicker than arms and when you have things in sync, you will have successfully added speed to your golf swing.

Tips and Warnings
