Eyelash length is often considered as a sign of beauty in many different cultures, and there are numerous products on the market to help make your eyelashes look longer and more noticeable. However, many of these products can cause irritation to wearers and contain unnatural ingredients. Luckily, there are some natural home remedies that can be used to make eyelashes grow longer with typical household ingredients. These remedies have not been approved by the FDA, however, so talk with your doctor, especially if you are concerned about allergic reactions.
Olive Oil and Fresh Lime Juice
According to Julie Gabriel, author of "The Green Beauty Guide: Your Essential Resource to Organic and Natural Skin Care, Hair Care, Makeup, and Fragrances," a mixture of olive oil and fresh lime juice can be applied to eyelashes to help make them grown longer and stronger. To make this mixture, combine 4 parts olive oil with 1 part fresh lime juice in a jar or bottle and shake or stir to combine. With a small brush or cotton swab, apply a small amount of the mixture to the eyelashes, making sure not to get it in your eyes. After 20 minutes, rinse the eyelashes with cool water and pat dry. This treatment can be used twice daily, in the morning and evening as long as it doesn't irritate your skin. Unused portions of the mixture will keep in the refrigerator for up to 72 hours.
Vegetable Glycerin and Castor Oil
According to Melanie A. Sachs, author of "Ayurvedic Beauty Care," a mixture of vegetable glycerin and castor oil is commonly used to make eyelashes grow longer. To make this mixture, combine 1 tsp. vegetable glycerin with 2 tsp. castor oil in a small container and shake or stir to combine. Pour a small amount of the mixture onto a clean cotton pad and dab it on the eyelashes. Leave the mixture on for 30 minutes before rinsing with cool water and patting dry with a clean towel. This treatment can be used nightly before bed as long as it doesn't irritate your skin. Unused portions of the glycerin and castor oil mixture will keep in a cupboard or medicine cabinet for up to 90 days.
Green Tea and Jojoba Oil
According to Bill Gottlieb, author of "Alternative Cures: More than 1,000 of the Most Effective Natural Home Remedies," a mixture of green tea and jojoba oil can be applied to eyelashes to help them grow longer. To make this mixture, combine 1/8 cup green tea with 2 tbsp. jojoba oil in a small container and stir to combine. With a clean cotton swab, gently rub the mixture onto the eyelashes, making sure to avoid getting it in your eyes. Leave the mixture on the eyelashes overnight, and rinse with cool water and wash with a gentle cleanser in the morning. This treatment can be used daily as long as it doesn't irritate your skin. Unused portions of this mixture can be kept in the refrigerator for 72 hours if necessary.
