Painting a baby's room is the first step in creating and decorating your nursery. According to Mom's Pregnancy Planner, choosing a lime green color for your baby's room is beneficial for the baby, because it is a calming and relaxing color for a baby. Lime green is also an appropriate color for both boys' and girls' rooms. With a few preparations and painting techniques, you can achieve professional results when painting your baby's room.
Step 1
Remove all plug covers and light switch covers with a flathead screwdriver. Remove anything hanging on the walls.
Step 2
Push all of the furniture in the room away from the walls and cover everything with plastic tarp. Spread a plastic tarp on the floor.
Step 3
Wipe the surfaces of the walls and the corners with an old rag to remove dust.
Step 4
Apply painter's tape along the edge of the wall on top of the baseboards to prevent painting them. Climb the ladder carefully and apply painter's tape on the ceiling, along the edge of the wall, to prevent painting the ceiling. Apply painter's tape over the light switches, plugs and any other object that you don't want to paint.
Step 5
Put a paint roller onto the paint roller handle.
Step 6
Open the paint can, use the mixing stick to mix the paint thoroughly and pour 2 to 3 cups of paint into the painting tray. Dip the paint roller into the paint and roll over the surface of the paint tray two or three times to evenly distribute the paint onto the roller.
Step 7
Paint small areas of the wall in a zigzag shape, filling in one 4-foot square at a time. Cover the wall by repeating the square pattern. Paint as close to the baseboards and ceiling as you can without getting paint on them. Attach the paint roller extension stick to paint close to the ceiling. Once you finish one wall, paint the remainder of the wall along the baseboards and ceiling with an angled brush. Repeat this step on all the walls in the room.
Step 8
Allow the paint to dry according to the instructions on the paint can. Apply a second coat of paint.
Step 9
Remove the painter's tape after the paint has dried completely. Install the plug and light switch covers.
Tips and Warnings
- Choose a latex paint, which is the least toxic interior paint, with a washable finish that allows you to use soap and water to clean stains. Wash your paintbrushes thoroughly immediately after painting. Keep your baby's room well-ventilated while you paint. If you are pregnant, consult your doctor before painting.
