How to Prevent Postpartum Hair Loss

Hair loss is a common experience of postpartum mothers. However, according to "The Science of Hair Care," postpartum hair loss can be lessened and sometimes prevented entirely. Though the steps of preventing postpartum hair loss are fairly simple, they encompass your entire life. Visit your doctor if your hair loss continues for more than 3 months after having your baby, as this could be the sign of a more serious medical condition.

Step 1

Step 2

Try incorporating aromatherapy, meditation, eating a healthy diet and exercise into your daily routine to reduce your stress levels.

Step 3

Avoid hair styles that pull your hair taut, including pony tails and tight braids. According to "Hair Care: An Illustrated Dermatologic Handbook," these hair styles stress the hair follicle and can cause breakage in the already fragile hair of postpartum women.
