E-Z-Go produces a variety of battery-operated carts that are designed to carry golfers and their clubs around a golf course. These devices feature a 48-volt DC electric drive train powered by a series of large, rechargeable batteries. Once installed in the cart, cables link the batteries to create a single power source, which then connects directly to the golf cart. If you are planning to install batteries into an E-Z-Go golf cart by yourself, you need to know how to hook up these cables properly.
Step 1
Use your foot to activate the parking brake by pushing down on the upper end of the brake pedal. Turn the golf cart's key counterclockwise until it reaches the "off" position. Remove the key from the ignition. Wedge chocks on either side of the golf cart's wheels to prevent the cart from rolling.
Step 2
Hook the carrier straps to the metal loops protruding from the top of one of the batteries. Bind the straps to the cable end of the portable lifting device. Use the portable lifting device to lift the battery and install it into battery tray.
Step 3
Position the battery so it is flush with the short end of the tray. Install the remaining batteries into the tray, perpendicular to the first battery. Remove the carrier straps from the batteries.
Step 4
Place the battery hold down and battery strap on top of the installed batteries. Find the J-bolts that are attached to the ends of the battery hold down and under the center of the battery strap. Hook the J-bolts under the edge of the battery tray. Tighten the hex nuts at the ends of the battery hold down and in the center of the battery strap. Use two screws to secure the ends of the battery strap to the tray.
Step 5
Stand next to the battery tray with the short end facing to your right. Use an insulated wrench to loosen the nuts on the battery terminals. Use the battery cables to connect the positive terminal of one battery to the negative terminal of another. Start with the battery on the right side of the tray and go clockwise.
Step 6
Attach the golf cart's main negative battery cable to the negative terminal of the battery on the right side of the tray. Attach the main positive battery cable to the positive terminal of the battery on the upper left side of the tray. Tighten the nuts at the end of each terminal.
