Abdominal fat is biologically active, acting as an organ or gland that produces hormones that affect our health, causing diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and colorectal cancer. If you don't exert enough energy to expend extra calories, your body stores these calories as fat in your midsection. If you want to remove abdominal fat, diet and exercise is the healthy way to contour your body. Liposuction and cosmetic surgery should be used as a last resort.

What to Eat

Step 1

Eat a balanced diet, consuming fewer calories than you expend daily in order to reach a calorie deficit.

Step 2

Eat more whole grains. According to MSN, adults who ate more whole grains had about 2.4 percent less body fat and 3.6 percent less abdominal fat than those who didn't.

Step 3

Increase your daily dairy intake. According to a study by the New Curtin University of Technology in Australia in 2009, you lose more abdominal fat by increasing your dairy intake.

Step 4

Drink Wu-Yi (Oolong) Chinese Tea. Drinking Oolong tea, combined with regular exercise and a balanced diet, may help your weight decrease by speeding up your digestive process and flushing fat out of your system, according to the Linus Pauling Institute.

What to Do

Step 1

Perform moderate-intensity physical activity for at least 30 minutes every day to control weight. According to Harvard Health Publications, researchers at Duke University Medical Center found that people who didn't exercise had nearly 9 percent visceral fat gain in the stomach after six months.

Step 2

Perform strength training all-over body exercises, as well as abdominal exercises to melt fat and tighten your stomach muscles. Spot exercising, including sit-ups, leg lifts, etc. will tighten your abdominal muscles, although it won't get rid of visceral fat.

Step 3

Sign up for acupuncture. This Chinese medicine is used to strengthen your digestive system, stimulate your stomach to more efficiently break down food and reduce your appetite, according to "Acupuncture Today."

Step 4

Sign up for a consultation for liposuction as a last resort.

Tips and Warnings

  • Lose weight slowly and sensibly. Choose a diet that is sustainable, rather than one you will give up on after a few days or weeks.
  • Abdominal fat can cause diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and colorectal cancer, so it is important to take care of it early on.

Things You'll Need

  • Whole grains
  • Low-fat dairy products
  • Oolong Chinese Tea
