There are a broad range of treatments available to treat dark circles that tend to form under the eyes. These range from laser therapy to topical pharmaceutical creams to home remedies such as cool moist tea bags placed over the eye area. You can also minimize or get rid of under eye circles by taking vitamins.
B Vitamins
Increase your intake of the B vitamins to minimize or get rid of dark, under eye circles, writes Lisa Drayer. In the book "The Beauty Diet," she reports that these vitamins help to reduce water retention, which can cause puffy eyes that in turn result in dark circles in the under-eye area. Add foods that contain high levels of the B vitamins, such as walnuts, which are rich in Vitamins B1 and B7 and yogurt, which is rich in B2 and B5. Wild salmon, spinach and oysters are rich in Vitamins B3, B9 and B12, respectively.
Vitamin K
Dark circles under your eyes are among the known symptoms of a Vitamin K deficiency, writes Gwenyfar in her book "Your Health Is in Your Kitchen: Why Momma Made Chicken Soup." You can reverse this deficiency by adding foods that are rich in this vitamin to your daily diet. These include brown rice, eggs, oatmeal, wheat, alfalfa, cornmeal, sweet potatoes, liver, soybeans, and milk to your diet.
The University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) also reports that this vitamin has strong antioxidant properties that promote the repair of damaged skin cells. It is also promotes blood coagulation and circulation, which help to accelerate cell tissue repair. In addition to food sources, vitamin K can be obtained over-the-counter as a topical cream or in skin products that contain it as an active ingredient.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E can also be taken for dark under eye circles. Vitamin E oil, which is applied topically, is the most common form in which this vitamin is used medicinally for skin conditions. Author Roshni Dayal, in the book "Natural Beauty Secrets from India ," recommends gently smoothing a few drops of vitamin E oil around your eyes. Do this once a day before you retire to bed each night. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, vitamin E also helps your body make better use of Vitamin K.
