For some, hair is another form of artistic expression. Hair pieces or extensions allow you to change your hairstyle often, without damaging it. Hair extensions are a handy alternative to enhancing your current look or developing a new look. Putting in clip-in hair pieces at home is relatively easy to do with a little time and practice.
Step 1
Choose your hair pieces. For a natural look, choose hair pieces that are similar to your natural hair color. For a more edgy look, choose hair pieces that are a contrasting color to your hair, for example, use black hair pieces if your hair is blond.
Step 2
Wash, condition and dry your hair. Your hair needs to be clean so it is close to the texture of the hair pieces you're going to clip in. These pieces are usually dry, soft and straight.
Step 3
Make a part along the bottom of your hairline. Pin up the remaining hair with a hair clip. Clip a hair piece into the part. Unclip the remaining hair, make another part and comb down another row of hair.
Step 4
Spray the hair with heat protectant spray and run the flat iron down your hair, blending your natural hair and the hair piece together. Continue this process with the remaining hair.
Step 5
Comb the hair into the style you prefer. You may need to trim the extensions to blend into the style. Spray the heat protectant spray all over your hair and use the flat iron or curling iron to style as desired.
