Most people are embarrassed and self-conscious when they lose their hair. Millions of Americans lose their hair every year. Most hair loss is genetic, so you should not feel like you did anything wrong or that you could have prevented you hair from falling out.
You lose your hair when your follicles stop making the chemical keratin. Keratin is the key ingredient in making hair grow, and it is necessary if you want to reverse hair loss. To regrow hair, eat protein, drink water and take the right medication.
Step 1
Make protein a priority in your diet. Protein is the essential ingredient in keeping your skin looking fresh and your hair looking healthy. Protein helps your body get the nutrients it needs to once again produce keratin, which can reverse hair loss. Make sure you get a serving of protein at every meal, such as tofu, eggs, chicken and yogurt.
Step 2
Drink plenty of water. If your body is dehydrated, it cannot get enough nutrients to produce keratin, which is key in reversing hair loss. If you want to get the nutrients you need to produce keratin again. The Mayo Clinic advises that you drink at least eight 8 oz. glasses of water or liquids every day.
Step 3
Apply minoxidil, also known as Rogaine, to your scalp to reverse hair loss. You can get minoxidil from your local pharmacy as it is an over-the-counter medication. Minoxidil comes in the form of foam or liquid that works to reverse hair loss. The Mayo Clinic recommends minoxidil to regrow hair, but is not sure exactly how it works.
Step 4
Undergo steroid injections. Your doctor can inject a steroid solution into the places you want to reverse hair loss to help produce the chemical keratin again. The website Health Communities notes that if you want to reverse hair loss on small patches of baldness, than steroid injections are the best option. It may take up to two months to see results.
