Honey is a natural humectant, or moisturizing ingredient that works by attracting and retaining moisture from the air . In addition, honey can function as an exfoliating ingredient, a wrinkle reducer, a natural antiseptic and a skin revitalizer, according to the RN Guide To Skin Care website. To reduce the risk of developing an allergic reaction to homemade skin care products that include honey, Organic Facts recommends using filtered rather than unfiltered honey, as unfiltered honey contains dirt, pollen grains and bee remains.
