Whole milk hydrates the skin and prevents dryness. According to Health Today Online, milk contains essential amino acids, proteins, vitamins and conditioners that nourish the skin. The substance is believed to promote glowing, radiant skin when used regularly as an external treatment. Using milk in homemade cosmetics can be difficult, as it does not store well. Making lotion with milk is possible, however, but you'll have to create a fresh batch for each application to prevent spoilage.

Step 1

Place the dried herbs in a heat-proof container.

Step 2

Pour 1 cup boiling water over the herbs, cover, and allow to steep for two to three hours.

Step 3

Strain the spent herbs from the liquid, and discard. Transfer ¼ cup of the herbal water to a blender or food processor.

Step 4

Wash the strawberries and remove the leaves. Add the milk, strawberries, cucumber slices and egg whites to the blender with the herbal water.

Step 5

Process on medium speed until the ingredients are well combined and a smooth consistency is achieved.

Step 6

Dab the milk lotion generously on your skin, let dry completely for about 20 to 30 minutes, and rinse with warm water.

Step 7

Discard any leftovers. Because milk and fresh fruit spoil easily, this lotion does not keep. Store in the refrigerator for no more than a few hours if necessary.

Tips and Warnings

  • For best results, use herbs that complement your skin type to make your own customized milk lotion. In her book "Herbal Healing for Women," herbalist Rosemary Gladstar recommends lavender or rose for normal skin, chamomile or calendula for dry skin, and sage or comfrey for oily skin.

  • 2 tbsp. dried herbs of choice
  • Blender or food processor
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
