Experiencing the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal or detox can be difficult. Some alternative health care practitioners recommend the use of homeopathic remedies to ease the symptoms of alcohol detoxification, which commonly include nausea, vomiting, cold sweats, erratic behavior and in extreme cases, unconsciousness. Do not attempt to detox from alcohol without a sober person present to assist you. If your symptoms do not improve, worsen, or you become unconscious, your sober assistant should contact emergency services immediately. Since attempting to detox from alcohol "cold turkey" can be fatal, never do so except under the direct supervision of a physician.

Arsenicum album

Arsenicum album is given to patients who are detoxing from alcohol and who are suffering anxiety and compulsiveness, according to the University of Maryland. The patient may also be experiencing nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea. Patients who feel exhausted and cold, yet seem unable to keep still, relax, or stop obsessing over small details may also benefit from this remedy.

Nux vomica

Nux vomica is also used to treat patients whose alcohol withdrawal has left them with nausea, vomiting or bowel discomforts, according to the University of Maryland. However, rather than treating patients who are experiencing restlessness or obsessive-compulsive behaviors, nux vomica is indicated for patients who are over-sensitive to light, touch, and sound. These patients may also be over-sensitive emotionally as well, erupting angrily at the slightest comment, according to HealthNotes.

Staphysagria

Staphysagria is helpful in treating people who turned to alcohol to suppress their emotions, according to HealthNotes. Patients who are helped by staphysagria often seem mild-mannered and accommodating, but they may be harboring deep anger, possibly due to abuse or neglect in childhood. When they can no longer resort to alcohol to help them suppress their feelings, they may start acting out by starting arguments or throwing things. Staphysagria is intended to help these patients deal with their emotions while the alcohol works its way out of their systems.
