Savannah offers many activities that appeal to youths. The southeastern Georgia city has the Sand Gnats minor league baseball team, the Roundhouse Railroad Museum and a museum for the birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of the Girl Scouts. Kids, though, don't have to just observe things as spectators. Savannah has a range of activities to keep kids physically fit and healthy.

Golf

The First Tee Savannah program introduces kids to business and social skills, in addition to teaching golf. Kids between eight and 18 can attend weekly clinics and a summer camp. Life skills lessons like having sportsmanship, dedication and a work ethic is combined with golf technique instruction. First Tee doesn't deny any kids from participating if they can't afford the enrollment fee. Classes take place at the Bacon Park Golf Course and at the Mary Calder Golf Club.

Swimming

The American Heart Association recommends to make physical activity such as swimming a part of your regular routine for healthy circulation, heart and lungs. Kids can get started on the route to good health with swimming lessons at a Savannah pool. The city's Recreation Services Department operates nine pools with lessons for kids between six and 16, and offers open swim sessions.

Organized Sports

Savannah's recreation department offers opportunities for children to learn the proper techniques for sports. Options include leagues for baseball, basketball and football. Kids practice with their team, and compete against other squads. Additionally, children can attend a summer cheerleading camp to learn chants, pom-pom routines and other aspects of cheerleading.

Tennis

The Savannah Area Tennis Association (SATA) promotes tennis in the city by offering lessons to kids beginning with a Munchkin Tennis program for children four to six. Older children can compete in tournaments and on teams in leagues.

Farmers' Market

The Forsyth Farmers' Market introduces kids to healthy eating and physical activity. Every Saturday, the market has a Health Pavilion tent that offers activities for children like hula hoops and jump roping. It also has a vegetable of the week, in which children can create vegetable superheroes and learn about healthy snacks. The market is open from April to November.
