Soccer continues to be one of the fastest growing sports around the world. Especially popular with youth, summer soccer camps provide young players with the opportunity to improve their skills while getting to play the sport beyond just spring and fall leagues. In Maryland, beginner youth players to competitive high school age players can find many types of camps from day to overnight to grow both their love and their playing abilities to a higher level.
Ages and Gender
The soccer camps available in Maryland are generally for all ages of players, from 8 to 18. For younger players, day camps that offer a variety of activities including soccer are available throughout Maryland. A few soccer-specific camps will allow players as young as 4 years old. Players also have the opportunity to attend co-ed or gender-specific camps depending on their past playing experiences and comfort levels.
Specific Camps
There are specific soccer camps for girls and boys in Maryland. Camps focusing on skills just for goalkeepers or attackers are available as well as overall field playing skills camps for both defensive and offensive players. Team camps for youth leagues and middle/high school teams can also be found.
Skill Levels
Camps are intended for multiple levels of players so anyone can improve his skills and confidence. General camps are open to any skill level, while elite or advanced camps are open to higher skilled competitive players.
Day and Overnight Camps
Day camps, extended-hours day camps and overnight camps are open to players. Camps range in length of time from a few days up to a few weeks. Hours at camp will also range from a couple hours a day to a full day. Camp accommodations range from college campus housing to bunk camping.
Locations and Dates
Throughout the state, camp programs are offered through recreation centers, city-wide soccer programs and nationally recognized camp organizations that have been running camps for many years. You can find camps around the state from the state capital area of Annapolis to Baltimore and Ocean City. Camps run throughout the summer months beginning in early June until the end of July/early August.
Instructors
Camp instructors are highly skilled with years of playing experience from college to national teams and beyond. Most camp instructors also have coaching experience. Camp instructors are CPR and first-aid certified.
Equipment
Camps will provide soccer nets, balls, cones and other equipment. Camp shirts are also generally provided. Players will need to bring their own clothes for camp including soccer shorts, shin guards and footwear. Lunch is provided for extended-day camps. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided for overnight camps. Camps, in general, will provide water for campers but prefer campers bring a reuseable water bottle for daily use.
