Normal skin is characterized by an even tone, smooth texture and supple surface. Individuals with normal skin are not affected by excessive oil, dry patches, or visible pores and blemishes. According to Holistic Online, cleansing the skin twice a day with a mild soap, and stimulating the circulation once every two weeks with a non-drying mask treatment will help keep normal skin looking its best. You can make your own face mask for normal skin at home using herbs, water and ground oatmeal, which is gentle on all types of skin.

Step 1

Bring 2/3 cup water to a rolling boil over medium-high heat in a small saucepan.

Step 2

Turn off the heat, add the dried lavender flowers, and cover. Allow the mixture to steep for 10 to 15 minutes.

Step 3

Strain the dried lavender flowers from the liquid, and discard. Return the resulting herbal tea back to the saucepan, and allow the liquid to cool to room temperature.

Step 4

Place the oatmeal in a small mixing bowl. Add the lavender flower tea, 1 tsp. at a time, stirring until you achieve a thick, spreadable, paste-like consistency.

Step 5

Smooth the face mask on your skin, and leave it on for at least 20 minutes. Rinse it off with tepid water, and pat the skin dry. Follow with a light moisturizer for the best results.

Tips and Warnings

  • If dried lavender flowers are not available, use any other dried herbs that benefit normal skin types. In her book "Natural Beauty Basics," Dorie Byers recommends basil or mint leaves to help clarify and cleanse normal skin. Use 1/4 cup fresh herbs instead of dried if these are all you have available. Make your own ground oatmeal by placing whole oats in a blender or food processor and processing on high speed until you have a fine powder.

Things You'll Need

  • Small saucepan
  • 3 tbsp. dried lavender flowers
  • 1 tbsp. ground oatmeal
  • Small mixing bowl
